Screen Flanders supported animation series Dimitri wins in Ottawa
The Crocodile’s Tears (Les larmes du crocodile), an episode from the stop motion series Dimitri has been awarded the price for Best Animation Series for Children at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (17-21 September). The series directed by Fabien Drouet, Steven De Beul, Ben Tesseur and Agnes Lecreux is a French-Belgian-Swiss co-production supported by Screen Flanders and the VAF/Media Fund. Stop-motion animation studio Beast Animation co-produced the series for Flanders.
A stop-motion series for children aged three to six, Dimitri follows a little bird originating from northern Europe that ends up on the African plains of Ubuyu. Gradually, Dimitri overcomes his fears and discovers a world full of surprises. Being different is an asset that he will share with Mabeka the giraffe, Oko the zebra and Pili the meerkat.
Dimitri, which was successfully presented at Cartoon Forum in 2011, is a production of Vivement Lundi! (France), Nadasdy Film (Switzerland) and Beast Animation from Flanders. The stop-motion studio Beast Animation is currently also in the running for this year’s Cartoon d’Or with The Christmas Log, a co-production with France. Emma De Swaef and Marc James Roels’s Oh Willy…, another Beast Animation coproduction won this prestigious award in 2012.
Dimitri was granted support by the Screen Flanders economic fund, VAF/Media Fund and the Belgian Tax Shelter.
