Schneider vs. Bax and The Brand New Testament invited to BFI London Film Festival
Alex van Warmerdam’s Schneider vs. Bax and Jaco van Dormael’s The Brand New Testament (Le tout nouveau testament) are both invites to the 59th edition of the BFI London Film Festival (7 – 18 October). Both features were co-produced with Flanders and received support from the VAF/Film Fund and Screen Flanders.
Jaco Van Dormael’s surreal comedy The Brand New Testament stars Belgian actor Benoît Poelvoorde as God. He actually lives with wife (Yolande Moreau) and daughter (Pili Groyne) in Brussels. However the Almighty is not the nicest of characters. And then his daughter decides to rebel against him. Belgian co-producers are Terra Incognita Films, Climax Films and, for Flanders, Frank Van Passel for Caviar (Black, Paradise Trips).
Schneider vs. Bax by Alex van Warmerdam is about a hit man played by Tom Dewispelaere (Cordon), who gets an assignment on the morning of his birthday. An apparently simple job becomes more complex than expected… Eurydice Gysel of Czar TV (Waste Land, The Missing, The White Queen) co-produced the feature for Flanders.
The Brand New Testament and Schneider vs. Bax received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and were also backed by the Screen Flanders economic fund, under the aegis of Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
