Racer and the Jailbird invited to the Venice Film Festival
Michaël R. Roskam’s third feature Racer and the Jailbird is part of the Official Selection at the Venice Film Festival (Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica, 30 August–9 September). After premiering in Venice, the film will be in Belgian cinemas in October.
Racer and the Jailbird is Roskam’s third feature, after the internationally acclaimed Oscar-nominated Bullhead (2011) and his American debut The Drop (2014). Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts and French actress Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue Is the Warmest Colour) play the lead roles in this dark romantic tragedy set against the backdrop of Belgium’s crime underworld.
When Gino meets racing driver Bénédicte, it’s love at first sight: passionate. unconditional, fiery. But Gino has a secret - the kind that can endanger your life and the lives of those around you. Gino and Bénédicte will have to fight against fate, reason and their own weaknesses to save their love.
Racer and the Jailbird is produced by Bart Van Langendonck for Savage Film (Bullhead, The Ardennes), and co-produced by Peter Bouckaert at Eyeworks, Jean-Yves Roubin at Frakas Productions and television channel RTBF. The French co-producer is Pierre-Ange Le Pogam at Stone Angels, and the Dutch co-producers are Maarten Swart at Kaap Holland Film and Bruno Felix and Femke Wolting at Submarine.
Racer and the Jailbird will be in Belgian cinemas from 4 October, and is due to open in France and the Netherlands in November.
