More distribution deals for The Ardennes
Robin Pront’s debut feature The Ardennes is in high demand with international distributors. Theatrical rights have now been sold to the UK, Sweden, Poland, Estonia and the Netherlands. Italy’s Satine Film and France’s Diaphana had already picked up the film following its world premiere in Toronto last month.
Handling the film’s international sales, Attraction Distribution has closed distribution deals with several new territories. StudioCanal has acquired the rights for the UK, while Njutafilms – which has released such films from Flanders as The Broken Circle Breakdown and Bullhead – will distribute the film in Sweden. Paradiso Filmed Entertainment plans to release Pront’s ‘Flemish noir crime drama’ in the Netherlands in February 2016. Polish rights have been picked up by M2 Films.
The Ardennes has also been bought for Estonia by Estin Film, who previously released Douglas Boswell’s family adventure Labyrinthus and several European arthouse hits, including We Are the Best, Jagten and Maryland, starring Matthias Schoenaerts.
Pront’s debut feature also attracted the attention of international press at last month’s Toronto Festival. IndieWire listed Pront as one of seven ‘breakout’ directors to watch, while Nick James, editor of Sight & Sound, listed The Ardennes in his top 10 favourite films.
The Ardennes will have its US premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival (15-29 October 15) this month, with more festival invitations expected to follow soon.
Bart Van Langendonck produced The Ardennes for Savage Film (Bullhead, Labyrinthus). The film received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Sven Gatz and was also backed by the Screen Flanders economic fund, under the aegis of Flemish Economic Affairs Minister Philippe Muyters and Cultural Affairs Minister Gatz.
