Cargo invited to San Sebastian International Film Festival
Gilles Coulier’s debut feature Cargo will compete in the New Directors programme, an international competition for first and second feature films, at the 65th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
Cargo is a story about how desperation can bring a family to the edge of destruction. The main roles are played by Sam Louwyck, Wim Willaert and Sebastien Dewaele, with a script by Gilles Coulier and Tom Dupont.
The film marks the debut feature of VAF Wildcard winner Coulier, who previously directed shorts such as Iceland (2009), Paroles (2010) and Mont Blanc (2013). Iceland and Mont Blanc were selected for the Cannes Film Festival, in the Cinéfondation competition and the Official Competition respectively.
Cargo will open the Ostend Film Festival (where Coulier’s shorts also screened) on 8 September, and will be released in Belgium five days later. The film was produced by Coulier, Gilles De Schryver and Wouter Sap for production company De Wereldvrede, and co-produced by Halal Pictures (Netherlands), Chevaldeuxtrois (France), and Belgium’s public broadcast channel Eén.
